Heath & Krissy Harris

As a young man Heath Harris was apprenticed to Australia’s finest craftsmen before travelling to the outback, breaking horses in the bush and, of course, working in film and television, leading him to become an internationally recognised movie horse trainer.

Over the years Heath has competed in scores of horse sports riding in many styles of saddles; he knows from first-hand experience where improvements, modifications and changes can be made to traditional designs.

Heath designs the Saddle Trees as well as the saddles, his saddle trees take the best from the semi quarter horse and full quarter horse bars to create a versatile tree to fit 95% of all horses, with the most important part of the saddle tree design is the angle of the tree bars and the roll back of the tree bar at the point of the shoulder.

Heath and wife, Krissy, created Hawkesbury River Saddle Company initially specialising in fender stock saddles with the range now extending reiners, ropers, cutting and western saddles plus dressage and jumping saddles.

Hawkesbury River Saddle Co prices are reasonable, because of the system we use.  Heath is the designer and we test the prototypes in Australia. Generally he makes five or six design changes before he is completely happy with the finished product.  We then source the best materials from around the world to go into our hand-crafted saddles.

We don’t have an expensive retail shopfront, we sell our saddles online, at trade shows or customers come directly to our warehouse in Mt White. Our marketing strategy is ‘straight from warehouse to the public and people seem to like that idea
